The question was brought up: Wasilla, Alaska – just what DO they DO?

John Stewart’s The Daily Show recently reported on this topic. A show that can actually be quite informative, equivalent to watching a news segment, I was amazed and quite frankly shocked, but not surprised, at how little the Mayor could articulate her position and duties.

Try this one on for size. In a recent report, The Daily Show did a segment on Wasilla, Alaska, the city Governor Sarah Palin used to be a mayor of. The video below speaks for itself, really, in the lack of political knowledge or action that goes on in the town. The current mayor can’t even articulate what she does. Hell, for all we know, the Mayor of Wasilla spends her days looking at Russia from her porch, a sight seeing and foreign policy enriching experience surely taught to her by Governor Sarah Palin. Watch, and be amazed…

I have posted the video on my other site as it won’t embed properly on WordPress. Linked below

The Daily Show, some tidbits:

One anchor, five correspondents, zero credibility.

If you’re tired of the stodginess of the evening newscasts and you can’t bear to sit through the spinmeisters and shills on the 24-hour cable news network, don’t miss The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the nightly half-hour series unburdened by objectivity, journalistic integrity or even accuracy.

The Daily Show takes a reality-based look at news, trends, pop culture, current events, politics, sports and entertainment with an alternative point of view. In each show, anchorman Jon Stewart and a team of correspondents, including Aasif Mandvi, John Oliver, Rob Riggle, Jason Jones and Samantha Bee, comment on the day’s stories, employing actual news footage, taped field pieces, in-studio guests and on-the-spot coverage of important news events.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart — it’s even better than being informed.

Even more talk has been made of her outside relation to politics, even referencing herself as an outsider.

And as of late, Palin has become a household name, a household face, and a laughing matter. How did she become a relatively unknown Governor from Alaska to a well-known and well-disregarded Vice Presidential candidate for the Republican ticket this election year? The Media.

Through a combination of bloggers, news feeds, and video segments, the media has created a certain image of Sarah Palin, one probably not advantageous to McCain. NBC’s Saturday Night Live has been a huge contributor to her success as a celebrity, and perhaps what will be her lack of success politically. Creating segments with Tina Fey as a perfect clone of Palin, comedic satires were broadcasted nationwide, and captured a worldwide audience. Ratings for these segments were through the roof. And while Palin is riding her newfound celebrity status, it is unlikely she will reap any benefits politically.

It was only a few weeks ago that Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska was introduced to the world as the Republican Vice Presidential nominee. A seemingly unknown woman, a year and a half into her first term as Governor of the state of Alaska, Palin was thrown onto the international floor.

I remember waking up the morning the McCain camp announced they had picked Palin to be his running mate to the sound of my dad yelling on Skype to our relatives in Brasil.

“Obama just won the election!” he screamed.

As each day passes, that phrase appears to becoming ever closer to the truth. Who is Governor Palin? What experience does she bring to the table? Can we trust her to be the Second in Command of this country? The answers to these questions appear to be no. Her lack of experience holistically raises grave questions about her competency for the job. Reading notes when asked about foreign policy and the economy during the recent Vice Presidential Debates was damaging to her credibility.

Her image has been tainted, and her ability to lead a country to which she is more than likely a heart beat away from leading left in doubt. Sarah Palin is not and would not make a competent leader, not in the Vice Presidential role nor in the Presidential role. Nationally televised shows such as Saturday Night Live, a comedic satire on current events did an excellent job portraying Sarah Palin in their mock debate. Tina Fey (acting as Sarah Palin) played perfectly the soccer mom “Maverick” that Palin is, and truly demonstrated a clear inability to answer thoughtfully “tough questions.” If she can’t answer these “tough questions,” quite frankly we are screwed if she and McCain win because these “tough questions” are our country, our economy, our future. Without answers, how can we award you the second highest office in this country?

Above is a segment from the Vice Presidential debate. You’ll notice numerous occasions where Palin looks down at her notes when responding to foreign policy and economic questions.

To add a little humor to the argument, Dave Letterman put together a nice video montage. I think Palin says it all when she says “I think it’s so obvious that I’m not ready to be the Vice President…”

Think about who you’re voting for in a few weeks, and think about their qualifications. Where will we be in four years with a McCain-Palin administration? In a deeper whole than we have been for the past eight years…
